The development and implementation of enabling policies at international, national and local level is a fundamental component in strengthening health systems for sustainable, city-based cancer care solutions. However, evidence from an initial set of cities shows this can be limited by barriers in several areas, including resources, planning and coordination, leadership and ownership, measurement and accountability, and political economy.
To leverage the policy ecosystem to achieve transformative change in cancer care.
By developing and implementing a robust methodology for policy landscape assessment in City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) cities to inform the identification, planning, and continued adaptation of cancer care policy solutions.
This goal will also be achieved by fostering opportunities for knowledge-sharing and transfer among local and global policy-makers and influencers; this will increase awareness of the barriers to, and enabling factors around cancer care policy, and emphasise the role of different stakeholders.
Finally, a technical cooperation package must be developed to provide targeted support to C/Can cities. This will strengthen and align the cancer care policy ecosystem to support sustainable cancer care solutions in response to local needs.
