Porto Alegre’s situation analysis report, conducted by key city stakeholders, identified delays between the suspicion and diagnosis of cancer and a lack of awareness of cancer among health professionals (physicians, nurses and community health workers) at the primary healthcare (PHC) level.
To improve early diagnosis and education in primary care, raise access to specialised treatment and strengthen the health system in Porto Alegre.
The project team will develop a red flag protocol for the early diagnosis of lung cancer and melanoma, along with education in the signs and symptoms of these conditions, which will be delivered and piloted by Conceição Hospital Group. The lung cancer and melanoma online courses will train primary healthcare professionals to recognise the early signs and symptoms of common cancers, and a report will be published.
