The challenge

Yangon’s situation analysis highlighted the absence of hospital ethics committees for diagnosis and treatment procedures.

The goal

To create clinical ethics committees on cancer care in public and private cancer facilities in Yangon City.

How

The project team was made up of local experts and hospital administrators, oncologists, researchers, ethicists and representatives of both the community and private sector. This team drafted guidelines focusing on oncology diagnosis

 

* Project paused due to the current political situation in Myanmar.

Impact / Achievements

The guidelines of the Clinical Ethics Committee on Cancer Care will be applied by hospitals providing cancer care in public and private hospitals across Yangon city, and will also be established in public and private oncology facilities. This project will enable the Ministry of Health and Sports to establish a hospital ethics committee .

Outputs

  • Guidelines on Clinical Ethics Committee on Cancer Care.
  • Advocacy to implement the guidelines of the Clinical Ethics Committee on Cancer Care in both public and private cancer facilities in Yangon City.
