The challenge

Paediatric oncology care in Rosario continues to develop, and further strengthening of coordination and system-level alignment could enhance timely access and the overall quality of care.
Access to paediatric cancer medicines shows variability across sectors, particularly related to authorisation processes, highlighting opportunities to streamline pathways and reduce delays.
Information on the number of paediatric oncology patients treated and the therapies provided is generated through heterogeneous mechanisms, and improved standardisation would support more effective clinical and administrative decision-making.
Care processes and quality assurance practices vary across institutions treating paediatric oncology patients, and further harmonisation could support more consistent standards of care.
Opportunities remain to strengthen the implementation and alignment of existing national policy frameworks for paediatric onco-haematology across Rosario and the province of Santa Fe.
Finally, enhanced coordination across institutions and services would support continuity of care for children with cancer and their families.

The goal

To improve the quality and efficiency of access to paediatric oncology care in Rosario by developing and validating a comprehensive patient journey that identifies critical barriers and lays the foundation for strategic interventions in paediatric oncology.

Mapping the full paediatric oncology patient journey with a focus on early diagnosis and timely referral.
Reconstructing care pathways to identify delays, coordination gaps, and barriers to accessing essential services.
Collecting and analysing information from databases and multiple stakeholders, including healthcare providers, patients and families, payers, and civil society organisations.
Validating the mapped patient journey with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
Using the validated journey as a basis for designing a future improvement plan for paediatric oncology care in Rosario.
