Health Management and Information Systems

Optimising Patient Access, Treatment Completion, and Informed Decision-Making for cancer care.

Implementation
Cycle I

The challenge

  • In Rosario and the surrounding region, the availability and systematic use of high-quality cancer data present opportunities for further strengthening, which currently limits fully evidence-based health planning.
  • Although a population-based provincial cancer registry is established by regulation, its level of operational development and institutional participation remains variable, particularly across different healthcare sectors.
  • Fragmented information systems and limited interoperability hinder the effective integration and analysis of diagnostic and treatment data.
  • Strengthening continuous education and strategic workforce planning in oncology also represents an important opportunity to enhance system responsiveness.
  • As a result, conducting comprehensive and systematic assessments of patient pathways, service needs, workforce requirements, and the impact of cancer control actions remains challenging.

The goal

  • To facilitate optimised decision-making through the use of cancer data and information.

The How

  • Reconstructing the oncology patient journey, starting with cervical cancer, to identify barriers across the continuum of care.
  • Strengthening standardised, high-quality data collection for the Santa Fe Population-Based Cancer Registry.
  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative assessments of oncology human resource needs linked to patient care trajectories.

Outputs

  • Mapping the cervical cancer patient journey within the municipal health system.
  • Assessment of oncology workforce gaps for cancer care in the city.
  • Strengthening of the Santa Fe Population-Based Cancer Registry.
