Areas of action

The challenge

Insufficient training in cancer palliative care among healthcare professionals results in poor integration within comprehensive cancer care.

Limited access to palliative care services for cancer patients in Arequipa and the South Region of Peru.

The goal

Strengthen and integrate palliative and supportive cancer care into hospital and primary care levels to improve the quality of life for cancer patients in the city.

The How

Develop a technical document on palliative care services in Arequipa, including baseline analysis of infrastructure, supplies, and human resources, led by the technical team with support from international experts and C/Can.

Coordinate with the School of Medicine, universities, and teaching hospitals to integrate palliative care training for general practitioners, ensuring certification processes are in place.

Secure approval of the Palliative Care Development Plan by local authorities, enabling its inclusion in the multiannual investment schedule, with C/Can providing technical support, expert identification, and resource management.
