Michael Gone is the Health Financing Lead at City Cancer Challenge (C/Can). Michael offers a unique skill set consisting of managerial experience and technical expertise in healthcare financing and private sector engagement. He has over 14 years of experience in health financing, private medical insurance, healthcare management and private sector engagement. He has demonstrated unwavering commitment towards improving healthcare systems to improve the health of populations.
He leads the design and implementation of health financing and human resources projects, providing technical input and ensuring quality outcomes. He works with local stakeholders in LMICs to identify cancer financing gaps, advocate for increased funding, and develop innovative financing solutions.
Before joining C/Can, Michael was a Health Financing and Private Sector Engagement expert at the Palladium Group, supporting Rwanda’s Ministry of Health through the USAID-funded RIHSA project. He helped strengthen the country’s Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI) scheme, mobilize healthcare resources, and enhance private sector engagement. Previously, he led medical operations for health insurance companies in Kenya, optimizing efficiency, cost management, and customer satisfaction.
Michael holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from Strathmore Business School, an MBChB degree from the University of Nairobi, and an ACII from the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK.
