Dr. Stuart is the Group CEO of The Medical City, the largest hospital network in the Philippines under one brand, comprising 5 hospitals and 72 clinics, and serving over 3 million patients annually. He qualified as a doctor from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London, and spent the first 10 years of his career as a Royal Navy Surgeon. After completing multiple nuclear submarine patrols, he underwent Commando training and deployed in the field as a green beret.
Stuart transitioned out of clinical medicine in 2007, beginning his business career as a sell-side Equity Research Analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In 2011, he moved to the buy-side and has since transacted on over US$1.5 billion in venture capital and private equity healthcare deals across hospitals, diagnostics, primary care, digital health, and health tech.
Over the past decade, Stuart has focused on emerging markets, investing in and scaling healthcare companies serving low- to middle-income populations, with an emphasis on quality, access, and affordability. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences (major in Psychology), and earned his MBA in Finance from London Business School and Columbia GSB, graduating with Dean’s List Honors.
