Background

As countries strive to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), rethinking health financing is key to delivering equitable, sustainable, and high-quality cancer care. In many low- and middle-income countries, reliance on out-of-pocket payments leads to financial hardship and deepens health inequities.

To address this, City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) and Access Accelerated are hosting a WHA side event focused on optimising how health resources are mobilised, pooled, and spent. The event will spotlight strategic purchasing and innovative financing models that prioritise outcomes over volume, aiming to improve cancer care quality while strengthening health systems.

By fostering global dialogue and sharing real-world solutions, the session supports smarter health financing that drives progress toward UHC and better outcomes for cancer patients.
