Alfredo Polo is the Director of Technical Cooperation and Capacity Development at City Cancer Challenge. Alfredo has been serving the cancer control community for 30 years, at national, international, and global levels, across the public and private sectors. He has worked in hospitals, INGOs, and the UN system, dedicating his career to cancer care, health systems strengthening, and cooperation for development.
Before joining C/Can, he served at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where he contributed to global cancer control initiatives.
Throughout his career, he has been engaged in implementing innovative technologies in clinical practice, establishing quality management systems, conducting clinical and health systems research, and leading large-scale technical cooperation projects. He has collaborated closely with WHO, development agencies, development banks, and national health systems to strengthen cancer care in LMICs.
Alfredo holds an MD and a PhD in Medicine. He is a certified Lead Auditor in ISO 9000. He also has a Master’s in Project Management with PRINCE2 certification and a Master’s in Health Economics. Expertise in data analytics and modeling methodologies across various domains to inform decision-making and optimize health systems. This diverse expertise equips him to bridge the gap between technical work, evidence-based research, and practical implementation, driving systemic change in cancer care across LMICs.
