Dr. Beatriz Hornburg is an experienced anatomic pathologist, educated at the Santa Catarina University (UFSC) and the Department of Pathology at the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), in Brazil, with fellowships at the Institute of Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto (IPATIMUP), Portugal, and the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
In 1996, Beatriz co-founded CEDAP, in Joinville, Brazil, a pathology laboratory that achieved national reference status in quality management, being the first histopathology laboratory in Brazil accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) in 2001. Through CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program, she inspected renowned laboratories in Brazil, Colombia, and Portugal.
From 2009 to 2015, as Coordinator of the Quality Control Department of the Brazilian Society of Pathology (SBP), Beatriz created the Accreditation and Quality Control Program (PACQ), implemented in 2016, accrediting laboratories nationwide. She continues to serve as a leader auditor and member of the Accreditation Committee.
In 2022, Beatriz left her private practice to work in Global Health with the City Cancer Challenge Foundation helping to strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries by improving infrastructure and implementing quality standards. A native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English, with intermediate Spanish and basic German skills, Beatriz is well-equipped to collaborate internationally.
