Across Africa, governments, institutions and partners are advancing cancer control plans, Universal Health Coverage reforms and investments in stronger health systems. Yet these commitments do not automatically translate into care that patients can access consistently and equitably. The gap is not only in knowing what should be done. The gap is in implementation.

This is the implementation gap that the Africa Cancer Control Implementation Forum seeks to address. The Forum will bring together leaders from ministries of health, national cancer control programmes, healthcare institutions, professional societies, civil society and patient organisations, academic institutions, development partners, private sector actors and philanthropies to focus on a practical question: what does it take to move from policy commitments and technical standards to reliable cancer care delivery?

Building on C/Can’s experience supporting locally led cancer care initiatives in Abuja, Abidjan, Kampala, Kigali, Kumasi and Nairobi, the Forum will create a space for countries, cities and partners to examine what implementation requires in practice: clear ownership, strong institutions, coordinated patient pathways, capable multidisciplinary teams, actionable data, sustainable financing and partnerships that strengthen local systems rather than replace them.

This is not intended to be a standalone conference. The Forum will produce a concise white paper capturing African implementation experience, common barriers and practical recommendations for strengthening cancer care delivery. It will also launch a regional Community of Practice to sustain peer exchange and collaboration beyond Abuja.

The Forum is convened by City Cancer Challenge under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria, in collaboration with Africa CDC and WHO AFRO.

Please note that this event is by invitation only.
