Across Africa, governments, institutions and partners are advancing cancer control plans, Universal Health Coverage reforms and investments in stronger health systems. The challenge now is to translate these commitments into cancer services that patients can access consistently and equitably.

The inaugural Africa Cancer Control Implementation Forum will convene approximately 50 invited participants to examine what it takes to move from policy priorities and technical standards to reliable cancer care delivery. Designed as a working meeting rather than a traditional conference, the Forum will place practical implementation experience and peer learning at its centre.

Building on C/Can’s work in Abuja, Abidjan, Kampala, Kigali, Kumasi and Nairobi, participants will explore the conditions required for successful implementation, including clear institutional ownership, coordinated patient pathways, capable multidisciplinary teams, appropriate infrastructure and equipment, actionable data, sustainable financing and partnerships that strengthen local health systems.

The Forum will produce a concise white paper capturing African implementation experience, common delivery challenges and practical recommendations for strengthening cancer control implementation. It will also launch a regional Community of Practice to sustain peer exchange and collaboration beyond Abuja.

Closing Africa’s cancer care gap requires more than sound policies. It requires the institutions, people, partnerships and resources to translate those policies into care that reaches patients.

The Forum is convened by City Cancer Challenge Foundation under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria, in collaboration with Africa CDC.
