At World Cancer Congress 2026, C/Can is co-organising and contributing to a series of sessions built around a single conviction: where you live and who you are shouldn’t determine the quality of cancer care you receive.
We’re bringing together evidence, partners and practical tools to show how local action drives system-level change.
These sessions draw on real work with cities and partners across Nigeria, Kenya, Chile, Argentina, Cambodia and further afield. Together they make the case that strong local systems are how the world closes the cancer care gap.

The session will examine how international benchmarking and standardised quality indicators can both be leveraged to drive evidence-based cancer control strategies and quality improvement across health systems. Drawing on experiences from high-income countries and low- and middle-income settings, the session will demonstrate how comparative cancer data and quality metrics inform national cancer strategies, guide system reform, and improve equity and outcomes across the cancer care continuum. As countries face rising cancer burdens and constrained resources, integrating benchmarking with actionable quality indicators has become a global priority for translating data into measurable impact.

C/Can and the University of Melbourne present a new approach to building sustainable Knowledge Hubs for cancer research capacity in LMICs, drawing on a systematic review and pilot testing across five countries (Nigeria, Kenya, Chile, Argentina, Cambodia). The session includes the launch of the How-to Guide: Establishing Knowledge Hubs for Cancer Research in LMICs.

This study explores the relationship between policy and practice in the context of strengthening cancer care systems in low- and middle-income countries.
A session identifying gaps in the global cancer workforce and exploring how improved workforce capacity and patient advocacy can strengthen healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes and survival.

The Women’s Cancer session aims to create a platform for meaningful dialogue on women’s cancer challenges across Asia Pacific. Using MSD case studies from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, the session will examine how policy frameworks, system design, and prioritization choices shape equity and outcomes across the cancer care continuum. The discussion will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, government representatives, and other experts to share regional perspectives, highlight unmet needs, and explore policy opportunities that can drive more equitable cancer care.
