On 3 February 2019 the Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sport (MOHS) hosted a meeting with C/Can to update key development partners and healthcare leaders on the progress of the C/Can initiative in Yangon. The meeting brought together a large group of key city stakeholders, including the Union Minister H.E Dr.Myint Htwe, Permanent Secretary Prof. Thet Khaing Win, Director General Dr. Soe Oo from Ministry Health and Sports, the C/Can Yangon Executive Committee members, Dr. Stephen Paul Jost of the World Health Organization (WHO), Wai Lwin of DFID, and Aye Hnin Phyu from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). H.E. the Minister of Health opened the meeting by highlighting the importance of addressing cancer in Myanmar and conveying his support for the City Cancer Challenge activities in Yangon.
Following further remarks and presentations by Dr. Rolando Camacho, City Cancer Challenge, Global Special Advisor Prof. Rai Mra, President of the Myanmar Medical Association and Chair of the C/Can Yangon Executive Committee, Laura Solia Shellaby, C/Can City Health Financing Lead, and Dr. Aung Naing Soe, C/Can’Yangon City Manager, the assembled group participated in an interactive discussion on C/Can Yangon objectives and progress to date
